All about Embossed Business Cards – For the Professional Look

Embossed Business Cards

Embossed business cards are like any other business cards, but with an area of them moulded into shape. This is normally a logo or center piece of text on the card. For this reason alone, embossed business cards look far more professional and are worth the extra cash.

Business cards developed from a trade cards and calling cards which were used to endorse and publicize businesses from the 17th century. Since then they have evolved into modern business cards which now come with added extras such as embossing.

The main advantage of an embossed business card is the fact that it is truly prominent. The effect of the card on the client has far more impact and leaves a lasting impression with them.

Most businesses emboss their logo but others are far more creative. For example, some pet shops may have pay prints embossed on the front of their cards. You really can have a lot of fun choosing what and how to emboss the cards.

There are a few adaptations which can be performed on the cards. Blind embossing is elevating the image. Ink embossing covers the elevated area with a color of your choice. Embossing with foil involves covering the image with a sharp polished metallic layer. Embossed business cards generally have little give and can be quite stiff. In some cases they can even be printed on plastic.

They are much finer than their printed cousins (the standard business card) so they do cost slightly more. Business cards are used to put across the image of yourself and you business and the luxury embossed variety are now extremely sought after in Japanese and Chinese culture.

You will find cheap business cards online all over the place. However they will normally be printed on low quality paper with low quality ink. They are almost always lacking the professional look. In some cases the cheaper cards are even printed with an advertisement for the printing company on the back. Now how would it look showing one of them to your clients? Not very professional to say the least! With business cards it goes without saying that “you get what you pay for” and the embossed business cards are truly worth the extra.]

Before ordering your cards be sure you have the following details ready:

-          Part of the card to emboss

-          Thickness of card (15pt recommended)

-          Extras (E.g. Frosted card)

-          Color/Black and white on front/back

-          Text and design

For those true fanatics, there is the option of embossing your own business cards. Some companies offer the ability to create your own using acid etching. You create the design and send it in to the company and they will etch it on to a brass plate. There are other options such as photoemulsion and electrolytic etching but these are rarely performed with any success.

Embossed Business cards do cost a little more and the production time is a little longer but these drawbacks are paid for in return by the snazzy looking cards and mesmerizing effects they have on your clients.
